Focus On Today and Tomorrow Without Ignoring Your Past |
- Had your significant other blow a gasket over something that made no sense?
- Felt your stomach contract and your mind go into “fight or flight” mode over something someone said?
- Just couldn’t bring your self to say “I’m sorry”, when that’s what you really wanted?
- Or maybe you just can’t say what you feel because, well, just because.
Human beings love patterns. We depend on them to tell us what to expect in traffic, at work, and at home. During serious stress, we often make up patterns. Kind of like compulsive gamblers looking for a “streak”, we see connections that just aren't there. Thankfully, with this pattern in hand, we can make sure THAT never happens again!
The truth is the pattern doesn’t have much to do with what happened. But it is the only defense we have so we cling to it like gospel.
What we’ve just described is the birth and aftermath of traumatic stress. It can be as “small” as a child moving away from friends, the never ending anxiety of living in a war zone, or ritual abuse. They all leave their mark on our lives.
Everyone is different. There isn't some cookie cutter solution that works for everyone. Here you can read and ask questions and learn about the tools that can help you. Look over the speakers list for the next conference and you can get a sense of just how much help is waiting for you.
